As a small child I had big dreams, dreams of becoming
an Astronaut or a Fireman. I wanted to be someone who made a difference and left
my mark on this Earth. I wanted to be a hero. Mindy and I were very fortunate to
grow up in stable, loving households.
Even with the support of our families, it was still a difficult task
to find our own voices and become decent, responsible adults.
Nurturing parents who helped us to form strong family values, along
with supportive communities and strong friendships have allowed us to
become the individuals that we are today.
We were blessed. There are many children who aren't so lucky. Every
day children are born into dysfunctional, abusive and violent households.
The abuse takes on many forms: physical, mental and emotional. Unless
this cycle is stopped or somehow intervened, these children will grow
up and continue the cycle of abuse and pass it on to their own
children. This cycle needs to be broken.
At times we ask ourselves "how can we be optimistic about the future
when there is so much to do and so many children that need help?"
The answer to that question is: "One child at a time" The Stearns Family
Charitable Trust is helping these children by awarding grants and
providing resources and funds to children's charities. Which in turn
provide, shelter, education, support and hope. The heros of these
organizations are the men and women who are helping these children
find their own dreams and have brighter futures. If one child grows
up to be Astronaut or a Fireman, then our mission is successful.
Spreading the dream, one child at a time.
